On the Couch with Damian Okulic

Damian-Okulic-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Damian Okulic?
I’m someone who is just plain obsessed with stories. I scratch that itch mostly through performing but I also have a keen eye on theatre making and writing. I am blessed to be able to contribute in my own small way to the thousands of years of storytelling in Naarm/Melbourne and across the country.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Eat less biscuits.

Who inspires you and why?
People who continue to bring kindness and love to the world irrespective of the adversity they face. Their strength and courage fill me with awe, hope and a standard to strive towards.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
My mum would always tell me that a smile goes a long way. I carry that with me and try to give out random acts of kindness where I can. Sometimes it’s the smallest gestures that are most meaningful.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Anywhere I can be immersed in nature and explore.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
For me, family, friends and food are intertwined. When friends come to town, I’d take them to one of the cities many wonderful restaurants. Have a decent feed, a walk through the street and some gelati to cap it off.

What are you currently reading?
Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi | The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi

What are you currently listening to?
A lot of Lofi Girl and ambient music. It helps me muse.

Happiness is?
Living in the moment with the people I love.

What does the future hold for you?
With any luck, there will be more good company, full bellies, opportunity and time to relax.
