On the Couch with Claudia Barrie

Arts Review Claudia Barrie Belleville On the CouchWho is Claudia Barrie?
A Sydney-based theatre producer, director, actor, teacher and skater with Sydney Roller Derby League.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I’d be more heavily involved in animal conservation.

Who inspires you and why?
Strong independent women who make good things happen.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’d cuddle a lot of dogs. I love parrots and spend most of summer rescuing Christmas beetles. I try and be nice to people and things like that. I tell stories. And that’s important. I’d wish to do more of that and others to do more of that too.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Whistler. Mountains. Snow. Snowboarding. All of that.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
Pub. Theatre. Derby. Show them my Sydney.

What are you currently reading?
I’m actually not reading anything at the moment (other than the Belleville script over and over again) but I have just finished season 1 of Bloodline. Amazing!

What are you currently listening to?
My sound designer has just cranked Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics and I’m pretty happy about it.

Happiness is?
Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics! But in all seriousness, after a pretty intense rehearsal period and tech week… sleep!

What does the future hold for you?
Who knows? But endless possibilities are pretty exciting!

Claudia is currently directing the Sydney premiere of Belleville at the Old Fitz Theatre until 7 May 2016. For more information, visit: www.oldfitztheatre.com for details.
