Who is Ciaran Lyons?
The man writing this article!
What would you do differently to what you do now?
I won the accounting award in year 10, so probably would be sitting at a desk doing people’s tax returns, sneaking in watching comedians on YouTube.
Who inspires you and why?
A lot of people inspire me in different ways. Radio wise – I’m inspired by UK presenter Nick Grimshaw. Comedy wise – I’m inspired by the comedian Joe Rogan – by how he has built up such a successful platform (podcast) on his own, and now has millions of listeners in the palm of his hand and no rules on what he can and can’t say!
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
If I was an accountant, I’d probably make some lame book on how to save money for young people. Even though I love spending and should probably save more. I guess being a comedian I’d need to look outside performing to make a difference in the world haha (besides trying to make as many people laugh!) I spent some time in Bali when I was younger helping out at an orphanage. I’d love to go back and spend a few weeks volunteering there again!
Favourite holiday destination and why?
France was awesome, I’d love to go there again. Loved the food! I went during Christmas time so it was snowing and going ice skating every night!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I would take them to many things over here, but especially the lane off Flinders lane with all the restaurants! There is a really cool Italian restaurant there that I have been going to every time I come to Melbourne since I was 15.
What are you currently reading?
I’m not reading anything at the moment, nor watching any TV shows – the first five months of this year is comedy festival season, so between that, radio and seeing friends I don’t have time to read. Follow up with me in a few months!
What are you currently listening to?
I work for triple j – so I pretty much get my playlist from whatever songs I enjoy playing during a shift. If I like the song, I’ll make a note of it for later. I feel like this question is always hard, cause people judge you for it haha! But at the moment I’m digging tunes from Peking Duk, Post Malone and Flume’s new stuff!
Happiness is?
Watching that comedian, Ciaran Lyons!
What does the future hold for you?
After Melbourne International Comedy Festival, I go straight into Sydney Comedy Festival. Then working on some projects and building a new festival show for next year!
Ciaran presents What’s Next? at the Fad Gallery as part of the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival until 21 April. For more information, visit: www.comedyfestival.com.au or www.frontiercomedy.com for details.
