On the Couch with Christina Costigan

AAR Christina Costigan photo by Daniel Rabin PhotographyWho is Christina Costigan?
An inveterate show-off.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Acting is my passion and is at the core of my being but I’m also lucky enough to have an enjoyable corporate career in communications and marketing. If I could have my pick of anything else it would be to turn my passion project – running tiny independent theatre company Baggage Productions – into a full-time, income-earning enterprise that is generously financially supported so that we could in turn nurture and pay a living wage to emerging writers, actors, directors, and other creative artists and produce wonderful, original Australian stories onstage.

Who inspires you and why?
Emma Thompson because she is not only a brilliant actor and scriptwriter, but also uses her fierce intelligence and influence to advocate for women and call out misogynistic behaviour. I’m also inspired by my brilliant friend Bridgette Burton, who co-founded Baggage Productions with me and, like Emma, is a fiercely intelligent and talented woman.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Stop all new oil and gas mining enterprises and ramp up investment in sustainable energy generation so we’ve got a chance at slowing down global warming and our own extinction.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Champagne. Surely for obvious reasons!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The Mornington Peninsula – its got beautiful beaches and wineries, what else do you need?

What are you currently reading?
The Duchess of Malfi script!

What are you currently listening to?
Loads of podcasts. Current binge is Celebrity Memoir Book Club.

Happiness is?
Sharing good food and wine with dear friends.

What does the future hold for you?
A superb season of The Duchess of Malfi with Arrant Knaves Theatre Company – starting with Opening Night champers!
