On the Couch with Chris Burgess

Chris-Burgess-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Chris Burgess?
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. If you were to ask my agent, I’m an actor, singer, and dancer working in Music Theatre. If you were to ask my mum, she’d say I’m one of her two sons, the yoga teaching, creative, bread baking, (good looking) one. If you were to ask my honors supervisor, I’m late and over the word count for my assessment…

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I wouldn’t sit with such bad posture, and I’d also forgive myself for having bad posture.

Who inspires you and why?
Everyone inspires me at different points. People can be an amazing source of inspiration if you are listening.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Donate a little more, be kind to my mum, spend time listening and learning from people with different life experience to me, and brush my teeth twice a day (but I will not floss, that’s a step too far).

Favorite holiday destination and why?
My green meditation armchair – I go on some wild rides on that thing. Also somewhere with lots of powdery snow so that I can ski… heaven!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
Rainbow International House Club on a night where Iva Rosebud is performing… She’s fab!

What are you currently reading?
I was reading Memoirs of a Geisha and have now finished it – loved the first half, and then less so as it went on. I have just started Dark Emu and am also reading copious amounts of academic journals on acting and cognitive science for my honors research.

What are you currently listening to?
Annie Lennox – Diva; Annie Lennox – Medusa; Annie Lennox – Songs Of Mass Destruction; Annie Lennox – Peace; Annie Lennox – Bare; and Annie Lennox – A Christmas Cornucopia (this is the highlight…)

Happiness is?
Jessica my cat, a bowl of homemade soup, yoga classes, endless herbal tea, a marvel movie, and snuggles with my partner Tom (PDA much)…

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully, a silent vipassana yoga retreat and fantastic results for my honors assessment. Realistically, opening LENNOX: Legend in my Living Room at Chapel Off Chapel this coming week and plenty of ‘constructive feedback’ for my honors on why I should not leave things to the last minute… tee hee!

Chris stars in LENNOX: Legend in my Living Room – which will be presented at Chapel Off Chapel as part of the 2021 Melbourne Cabaret Festival from 21 – 23 June. For more information, visit: www.melbournecabaret.com for details.
