On the Couch with Caitlin Dullard

La Mama Theatre Caitlin Dullard photo by Darren GillWho is Caitlin Dullard?
Caitlin is La Mama Theatre’s CEO. Though that is a pretty consuming thing, she also tries to be someone who goes walking in the forest and spends time with family and friends. She’s been called resilient, tenacious, and dogged. She hopes she’s also warm and compassionate.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
That’s a confronting question – I have no idea. I’m a trained teacher but my love for the theatre is a very powerful force!

Who inspires you and why?
I’m really inspired by people who keep showing up – with hope, optimism and a strong work ethic – despite it all.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would facilitate excellent opportunities for artists. Have you heard about our upcoming free Professional Development Series? It’s intended to connect, inspire and educate artists – so that they can thrive in the world – despite it all!

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Any sleepy beach town in winter. Fire. Good book. Long beach walks. I think the why is clear.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
There’s this amazing little theatre I love called La Mama. There’s always a friendly face, a warm cuppa and art that will have an impact.

What are you currently reading?
Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens by Shankari Chandran.

What are you currently listening to?
Praiseworthy by Alexis Wright.

Happiness is?
Bed by 7pm on a Saturday night. Peppermint tea, block of fine dark chocolate and some excellent laptop viewing.

What does the future hold for you?
I see enormous potential for the role of La Mama in the current world. For artists, audiences, community, ART! I’m going to give it my all for a bit longer before my next step which I hope involves a bit more time home with my two little ones.

Caitlin is the CEO of La Mama Theatre – who will be presenting a Professional Development Series (live and livestreamed) for Artists and Creatives from 8 – 12 July 2024. For more information, visit: www.lamama.com.au for details.
