On the Couch with Bridie McKim

Bridie McKim AAR On the CouchWho is Bridie McKim?
I wear many hats as Sydney rent is expensive. I am an actor, a creative, a NIDA graduate, an access and inclusion consultant, and a screen access coordinator.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I think I fall under the stereotype of an actor who would have loved to become a psychologist in a different life. I am so curious about what makes people who they are. It would be incredible to have the skill and ability to hold a mirror up to people and support them.

Who inspires you and why?
My family definitely inspires me to be the best I can be. My NIDA classmates are constantly inspiring me as they are doing incredible things. I also find Olivia Colman to be so inspirational as an actor. Not only is she incredible at her work but she also appears to be a great person. She is the epitome of taking the work seriously but not taking herself too seriously!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
If people understood that accessibility, inclusion and universal design benefits everyone.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
It would have to be Caloundra on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. I used to go there every year with my family as a kid. It’s a great coastal town and is a paradise that can’t be beaten.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I’d take them to the Sydney Fish Markets, Spice Alley or Thai Patong. For an iconic Sydney experience, we would go to the Bridgeview Hotel or Bondi Icebergs Club (for that unbeatable Icebergs view without the fancy flare).

What are you currently reading?
I’m reading the Throne of Glass series. Think The Lord of the Rings, but for the girls. It is definitely an easy and entertaining read.

What are you currently listening to?
I have a slight podcast obsession. I am constantly listening to shows such as You’re, Wrong About, Maintenance Phase, If Books Could Kill, and Swindled. I also like keeping up with the news through the ABC’s The Daily, The New York Time’s The Daily, and my favourite – Big Small Talk.

Happiness is?
Family, friends and food.

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully more amazing roles like Laura in The Glass Menagerie!
