On the Couch with Brendan Xavier

Brendan Xavier AAR On the CouchWho is Brendan Xavier?
I never know how to answer this question! I always immediately think about my family. My parents and siblings are so ingrained into who I am, so I’d say I’m nothing without my family.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I actually think about this a lot! I used to do a bit of landscaping, which I always found really relaxing and therapeutic in a way… So if I wasn’t an actor, and currently performing eight shows a week in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, I think I’d definitely be doing something like that.

Who inspires you and why?
My family. They’re my biggest support and I always want to do things for them and make them proud. They are a huge motivation for me to keep moving forward.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I think I try to do little things every day to try to make the world a better place, whether that be little acts of kindness, paying for a friend’s meal, donating to important causes, or speaking up for people who don’t have a platform.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
The best place I have ever been is India. The culture and the food were incredible! I’d go back in a heartbeat. On the other hand, somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit is Egypt. I’m a big history nerd!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I’d probably first take them to my favourite cafe in the city; Krimper Cafe on Guildford Lane. Then, a walk around The Tan or Carlton Gardens for some fresh air and a catch up, and then any restaurants around Fitzroy for dinner. We’re also spoiled for choice for food around Her Majesty’s Theatre – there’s too much to choose from!

I would also send my friends to try the Enchanted Teapot cocktail experience at Bar Clara. They’ve partnered with Beauty and the Beast to make a rosehip tea-infused Martin Miller’s gin, lemon, and honey which is brought to life with a liquid nitrogen fog right at your table – who doesn’t love a bit of theatre with their cocktail! It’s only at Bar Clara for a limited season and there is a non-alcoholic version also available.

What are you currently reading?
I’m reading a few things at the moment. One is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, which I’m really enjoying.

What are you currently listening to?
I’m hyper-fixating on Lizzy McAlpine’s new album Older. That girl knows how to hit me where it hurts. I especially love Come Down Soon.

Happiness is?
For me, happiness is connection and finding people who accept you for who you are, and sticking with them!

What does the future hold for you?
I have no idea… and that is exactly how I want it! I love not knowing what’s next, and just taking things as they come. In my experience, that’s when the best things happen. Don’t plan for too much, be open to anything! For now though, I’m really enjoying playing the Beast in Beauty and the Beast. We’re currently at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre – come see us!
