On the Couch with Brenda Bressed

Brenda-Bressed-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Brenda Bressed?
Brenda is a larger-than-life drag queen from Naarm, with a passion for live entertainment, comedy, musical theatre, and bringing joy to all her audiences! She is an entertainer at heart, but strives to educate and showcase queer talent in the outer South-East suburbs of Melbourne!

What would you do differently from what you do now?
If I wasn’t a drag queen, I would 1. Have a beard! And 2. I would probably still be in the arts somewhere – or I would have ended up being a hairdresser!

Who inspires you and why?
I’m inspired constantly by the rich and diverse queer community in Victoria. Some of my biggest drag inspirations are Dolly Diamond, Karen from Finance and Thomas Jaspers – as well as constantly being inspired by my dear drag sisters Della Katessen and HollyPop!

But my first and foremost inspiration would have to be Dolly Parton herself, she was one of the reasons I started drag. I was always amazed and in awe of her fashion, wigs, musical talent and overall outlook on life! She has done so much charity work, and donates huge amounts of money to so many organisations!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would love to keep doing what I’m doing, educating my audiences on the rich diversity of the human race. Showing that not everyone is the same, and that what makes us beautiful. Teaching that diversity is not a hindrance, but a strength. Education and compassion is s the cure for prejudice and bigotry.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I’m going to sound like a complete bogan and say: Domestic – Gold Coast baby! International – Bali! However, I’m going to Japan for my honeymoon and I am so excited! I’ve always wanted to go there!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I usually take people to a local drag show – I like to give them a taste of Melbourne entertainment! And most people when they visit want to see the places that I work in too.

What are you currently reading?
A script for a new musical I’m in – Castro’s Children. Apart from that… I don’t really read books! Who has the time?!

What are you currently listening to?
My go-to’s are: Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, anything Disco, or a Broadway Soundtrack!

Happiness is?
Doing what you love, and getting paid for it!

What does the future hold for you?
Many exciting opportunities! I’m still in the early stages of my career, and if the last couple of years are anything to go by, I’ve got lots to look forward to!
