Who is Ashleigh Roper?
Ashleigh as an artist is an Aussie circus performer who specialises in hula hoop contortion and aerial hoop. But as a human, I’d like to think she’s so much more than that. She loves being in the sun and absolutely adores spending time with her friends, film photography and traveling the world.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I feel being a performer is part of my DNA. So, if I wasn’t a circus artist, I feel like I’d love to be a pop star or be part of a girl group. However, I wasn’t gifted with any sort of music ability, so I’ll stick with the hula hooping.
Who inspires you and why?
I’ve always been inspired by the people around me. My older sister was my inspiration growing up, anything she did, I wanted to do, everything she had, I wanted to have too. She inspired me to take the leap of moving interstate to go to circus school because if she could move countries, I’d be fine moving states. And now I’m constantly inspired by my friends and all the incredible artists I’ve gotten to meet and work with over the years.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I hope that the difference I’m making in this world is spreading joy and inspiration. Because you really can do whatever it is your heart desires. I mean, look at me, I hula hoop for a living.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I’m happiest by the ocean, so any sort of beach destination really. But recently I took myself on a solo vacation to Rhodes, Greece and it was incredible 10/10 – 100% would recommend!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Don’t be shocked by this one, but I’d take them to the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast. I also love a good rollercoaster, so probably Movie World or Dreamworld.
What are you currently reading?
I’m a sucker for a romance read. I’ve just started Happy Place by Emily Henry and I’m hooked already.
What are you currently listening to?
As a big old ‘swifty’ – I’m going to have to say any of Taylor Swift’s discography. But I also enjoy Sabrina Carpenter, Harry Styles, Chappell Roan and The Last Dinner Party.
Happiness is?
Hula hoops, coffee, my friends and the ocean.
What does the future hold for you?
My immediate future holds a 6-month tour, which I’m super excited for. But hopefully many more years of hula hooping my heart out on stage, traveling the world and getting to share my beautiful life with the people I care about the most.
