On the Couch with Antoinette Halloran

Antoinette Halloran AAR On the CouchWho is Antoinette Halloran?
A freelance opera singer/music theatre tragic who thrives in the world between these genres. I’m starring as Mrs Lovett – a pie maker and opportunist who thrives on lust and greed in Victorian Opera’s Sweeney Todd.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Maybe get political. God knows we need some strong women to start running the world. It’s a mess right now.

Who inspires you and why?
People who say what they think. Artists who aren’t afraid to question and delve deep. I can’t stand yes men or women. I like the process involved in asking why?

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Oh my. This is like a Miss Universe pageant. I am ill equipped to answer such questions as I’ve never been a pageant queen! Maybe just be demure and mindful! Ha. Or sing Wind Beneath My Wings.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
NOOOOOOOORSA! Because it’s heaven.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The National Gallery… I love the architecture and the art… and then to the Botanical Gardens, because they are world class.

What are you currently reading?
Middlemarch by George Eliot… again. The girl could spin a great yarn!

What are you currently listening to?
Tay Tay – thanks to my 15-year-old singing her whole catalogue.

Happiness is?
Listening to my 15-year-old sing Tay Tay… singing Sondheim myself… my children’s laughter… fresh tomatoes and basil. Wine.

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully more Sondheim… and opera… and world peace.. fresh basil… and… Wind beneath my Wings!!!
