On the Couch with Annie Chiswell

Annie-Chiswell-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Annie Chiswell?
I am an Adelaide born, Melbourne based performer. Lover of an oat latte, AFL football, and any song with Beyonce in it.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’ve always had a passion for special needs, and in my off-time from theatre I work as a Teaching Assistant in an Autistic school. I’ve always seen myself opening up an inclusive arts program for disability and hope someday I can make that dream a reality.

Who inspires you and why?
Honestly, my friends. Going to see shows all around the country with beautiful mates doing incredible work is what keeps me going. They are all so inspiring and captivating and clever, and I’m grateful for each of them.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’ve always believed in giving back to those that can often be overlooked by society. I hope I can continue to bring love and care into the worlds of people who might not have had the best upbringing, or struggle socially, intellectually, or physically. Everyone deserves love and equal treatment.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Ooo what a question. NYC was pretty fast paced and wild. And the theatre over there is just incredible. I definitely liked going on holiday there, not sure I could live there though.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The Botanical Gardens, or the NGV, or any funky cool cafe that has the best coffee and pastry. There’s nothing better than sitting in a park with a latte, a croissant, and a mate, is there?

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently making my way through Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Sensational, would recommend.

What are you currently listening to?
The Hamish and Andy podcast. Trust me. Do it. It’ll make you cry laugh in your car.

Happiness is?
Gratefulness. Being around those that you love and doing kind acts for others. And any puppy. Or dog for that matter.

What does the future hold for you?
I hope many wonderful things. But for right now I’m just focussing on the present. After the last few years, I’ve learnt to stop and take in the now a bit more, as I think we all have. And right now, life is pretty swell.
