On the Couch with Anna O’Byrne

Anna O'Byrne AAR On the CouchWho is Anna O’Byrne?
A human person!

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Get more sleep.

Who inspires you and why?
My family, because they are all exceptional people.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I think we should all be a little kinder to each other, a little more understanding, a little gentler. I am trying to be a better listener and learner – to actively listen to and engage with viewpoints that I find challenging and have an open dialogue.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Italy or France – for the sun, the food, the history, the language – but really, anywhere with my partner is my favourite place to be.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I have lived in London for the past 6 years so I often find myself playing tourist in Melbourne these days. I love taking visitors to the Mornington Peninsula or the Great Ocean Road, for the beautiful scenery, the sea and surf, and the wineries and restaurants. The Australian coastline is the best in the world.

What are you currently reading?
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

What are you currently listening to?
Podcasts. Mostly about books.

Happiness is?
With my partner and family.

What does the future hold for you?
Playing Laurey in Oklahoma! for The Production Company. Then I’m guesting for Ramin Karimloo for his Australian concert tour. Following that I’m returning to the UK for some more concert work… and after that, it’s a mystery!

Anna stars as Laurey Williams in The Production Company’s Oklahoma! in the State Theatre – Arts Centre Melbourne from 26 May 2018. For more information, visit: www.theproductioncompany.com.au for details.
