On the Couch with Andy Conaghan

Andy Conaghan AAR On the CouchWho is Andy Conaghan?
A new dad – and currently the Big Bad Wolf in the Shrek the Musical eight times a week. Send coffee.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’m endeavouring to slow down more at the moment and enjoy fatherhood.

Who inspires you and why?
My partner and my amazing family. They are all great listeners.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Make factory farming a thing of the past. And encourage people to follow a predominantly plant based diet. It’s one of the best things an individual can do to save our beautiful planet.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Anywhere on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. I spent many a childhood holiday exploring Coolum, Mooloolaba and Maroochydore. Holds a special place in my heart. Having recently returned from seven years of living in London and working on the West End, I’m loving reconnecting with the beautiful natural landscapes Australia has to offer.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
So most likely something that involves being close to the amazing waterways. Bondi to Bronte walk comes to mind.

What are you currently reading?
Sevens Heaven: The Beautiful Chaos of Fiji’s Olympic Dream by Ben Ryan. I’m a massive rugby fan!

What are you currently listening to?
The Trials of Cato, Sting, Christine and the Queens, and the Jagged Little Pill cast album.

Happiness is?
Brunch with close friends and family.

What does the future hold for you?
Being on tour with my partner and son for the next little while. Shrek is currently in Melbourne and then I’ll be close to more family in QLD for the Brisbane season. Having close family in both states will be a great opportunity for them to see the show and catch up. I’m also a faculty member at The Masterclass Studio, so I’ll be teaching lots of developing musical theatre performers at our intensive masterclass programs throughout the year.

Andy stars as the Big Bad Wolf in Shrek The Musical – currently playing at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre, before heading to Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre – QPAC from 9 May 2020. For more information, visit: www.shrekthemusical.com.au for details.
