On the Couch with Amber McMahon

Amber-McMahon-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Amber McMahon?
Amber McMahon is not sure how to answer this question. A heady, nervous, overly enthusiastic mess of contradictions? A creature of the theatre. Has climbed Mount Vesuvius in Cuban heels.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Navigate in vintage car rallies.

Who inspires you and why?
Most people in different ways. My mum for her dedication to nature and how much she loves, my dad for his pragmatism, my mentor for his voracious appetite for art and remaining curious, anyone who tackles things with humour, anyone with courage, hard workers, early risers, night owls.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Kibosh neoliberalism, make healthcare and education free, remind ourselves that value doesn’t mean cost.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Hvar, Croatia is stunning. Fresh fish and cucumbers with olive oil and salt for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Swims all day. Dancing at night. Having said that, most secluded coastal gems in Australia could offer the same. Win/Win.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Balmoral Beach for fish and chips and the glorious ocean. And the theatre. Any theatre.

What are you currently reading?
Currently reading and have been for a while now, Walter Benjamin’s Arcades Project. Impenetrable delight.

What are you currently listening to?
Currently listening to all sorts of old Jazz, and revisiting AC/DC. Bad lyrics, good rock.

Happiness is?
Happiness is love and contentment with loved ones, great art, great music, the ocean and oysters.

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully more of the above.
