On the Couch with Ainsley Melham

Ainsley is a young guy who grew up dancing and performing in the country. A guy who loves good food shared with family and friends. Someone who loves travelling and getting lost in a new book each week. And some who dreams of performing across the world while exploring what it has to offer along the way.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
If I wasn’t performing on stage, I would probably be a maths teacher! That was the other thing I was good at… Though not anymore!

Who inspires you and why?
My friends constantly inspire me! I always look to them when I need a little pep, because they are always striving to improve and explore/create/discover something new. Their zest for life gets me excited.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
That’s a hard question! I would love to have some grand plan to fix the world’s problems, but I don’t. To make my own little difference, I would love to reach out in my own community and help those people who don’t have a bed at night, or a meal to eat find a way to change their circumstance.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I really enjoy New Zealand. There is something about the air when you get of the plane that fills your head and makes you all giddy. It’s so fresh and reviving.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
When friends come to Sydney, I love to take them to Manly to chill out and get some delicious bites by the beach.

What are you currently reading?
Just finished reading the new Harry Potter script: The Cursed Child. And onto finishing the other book I have going Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami.

What are you currently listening to?
This changes so often, but currently I’m back on an old favourite, an album called The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monae.

Happiness is?
Family, friends, food and good conversation… preferably all together.

What does the future hold for you?
For a little while I’ll continue to tread the floor as Aladdin, but afterwards I would love to do some travelling and perhaps explore what work there is on offer on the world stage.

Ainsley can be seen in the Australian premiere season of Aladdin, currently playing at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre. For more information, visit: www.aladdinthemusical.com.au for details.
