On the Couch with Adam Noviello

Arts Review On the Couch Adam NovielloWho is Adam Noviello?
Singer/actor from Melbourne.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would probably try and be less self critical. Live in the now, enjoy the highs and just trust myself.

Who inspires you and why?
My Grandma. She is the most upbeat, optimistic and selfless person I know. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for another person. And she is 71 and has spent the last 5-10 years travelling the world. What a woman!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would use my platform as an artist. I would use my voice to spread the importance of kindness and fight to eradicate cruelty in all it’s forms. The statistics on teen suicide as a result of schoolyard bullying terrify me. Having been bullied as a child, I would want to inspire people to love and accept one another. Children are not born with cruel intentions, societal influence creates bullies and people who seem to relish in other peoples misfortune and unhappiness. All I want is for us all to exist as harmonious humans without negative labels or prejudice.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Somewhere with a good balance of fun and also stillness and quiet. I absolutely love my busy city lifestyle, but for a holiday I always want something peaceful. A tall cocktail on the beach. Heaven.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
Depends on the friend! But I would most likely take them to Southbank for a meal and then on to my favorite Melbourne bars. Melbourne at night is a beauty of it’s own so I’d want them to see it all lit up in it’s quirky glory.

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently re-reading Larry Moss’ book, The Intent To Live. It’s kind of my acting bible that I like to revisit when I’m doing a show. He’s a genius acting coach.

What are you currently listening to?
Bowie. Probably my greatest inspiration, in life and art. So sad to hear of his death, so he is pretty much on repeat. Vale Ziggy.

Happiness is?
Love. When you experience true love. For your friends, your family, but most importantly yourself. My greatest happiness has been finding and living my passion, which has helped me to find and love myself.

What does the future hold for you?
Once we close The Girlie Show, I will be putting on my new one man show, There was a boy… for one night only at Chapel Off Chapel on 26 February 2016.

Adam is currently appearing in The Girlie Show at the La Mama Courthouse until 31 January as part of the 2016 Midsumma Festival. For more information, visit: www.lamama.com.au for details.
