On the Couch with Abbie-lee Lewis

Abbie-lee-Lewis-On-the-Couch-AARWho is Abbie-lee Lewis?
I’m a Kalkadoon actor, director and writer who grew up in Western Australia and moved to Sydney some years ago to pursue a career in the arts.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I really can’t imagine myself doing anything differently. There have been times in my career where I’ve thought about it. About walking away from the arts. But what’s stopped me from walking away is knowing the power of storytelling. I’ve seen it effect change in people and have been affected by them.

Who inspires you and why?
I’m inspired by people who disrupt the norm. People who see the world differently or who have a unique perspective of it. I’m inspired by people who are unapologetically themselves.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Put more First Peoples in positions that can enact change.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Japan there is so much to do and learn there.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Restaurants and cafes. Food allows for learning and sharing of different cultures. Restaurants or cafes also allow for people to share stories with one another.

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Craft in the Real World by Matthew Salesses, a sort of integration of how one might decolonize the craft of fiction writing from a Korean American perspective.

What are you currently listening to?
The Sinners Soundtrack.

Happiness is?
A filter coffee in the morning with my Husband.

What does the future hold for you?
Who the eff knows but I can’t wait to find out.
