Who is Carly Sheppard?
Carly Sheppard leads A DAYLIGHT CONNECTION alongside Kamarra Bell-Wykes – a motley crew of friends, family, freaks, foes and fairies dedicated to smashing performance binaries by creating wild, transformative theatre for a wild and transformative world.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Not much! We’ve both spent the last 20 years wandering in the desolate wilderness of the Melbourne arts sector and in each other have discovered a creative synergy, strength and freedom to make work like we never have before. Which is priceless, although if we could change one thing we’d be rich. Derrrrr!
Who inspires you and why?
A lot of inspiration comes from music, specifically incredible lyricists – MF DOOM, Jim Morrison and Prince. Particularly artists that have created their own form, style and genre and are constantly shape-shifiting their persona.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’m not good at much beyond dreaming stories and birthing art, but I think bringing things into existence, especially things that are a tool of processing, an alchemiser, a fire for the audience to walk through, that’s pretty bloody vital.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
The Dark Side of the Moon has some great shopping precincts!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The Hot Springs when its raining.
What are you currently reading?
This document. Ummmmm my script.
What are you currently listening to?
A lot of podcasts about Universal Astrology and collective energy. We are living through once in a lifetime planetary alignments and they are doing the work so it’s good to know how we are being affected.
Happiness is?
The freedom to make choices. Riding my bike, dancing.
