NICA-OnOff-2023Promising a breathtaking display of skill, innovation and artistic expression, the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) is set to amaze audiences with its third-year graduate showcase, ON/OFF, from 28 November to 2 December 2023.

Audiences will revel in wonder and amazement as the artists perform 20 rounds of contortion, duo acrobatics, tightwire, aerial silk, trapeze, hula hoop, aerial straps, hoop diving, Chinese pole, and acrobatic whip.

ON/OFF is the culmination of years of dedication, passion, and relentless practice, showcasing their agility and prowess in self-directed acts that promise to leave audiences in awe.

NICA’s third year performance will not disappoint as they perform the fruits of their passion, blood, sweat and tears. ON/OFF an impressive display of skill and power from a group commended for their agility and prowess.

ON/OFF invites viewers to peel back the layers of an artist, revealing the little pieces of the many roles they fill on and off the stage. Audiences will bear witness to raw expression of vulnerability and strength as they each take turns to commandeer the spotlight.

The individual acts will be woven together with projection, live-feeds of backstage, and audio overlay of students sharing glimpses of their lives beyond the spotlight.

“These students have sold-out shows throughout their time at NICA, repeatedly demonstrating the versatility of their talents across theatrical comedy, dance sophistication and contemporary circus. Our industry is about to receive a wave of go-getters,” said James Brown, Head of Circus Studies, NICA.

The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) is Australia’s Centre of Excellence for training in contemporary circus arts. NICA is a member of the Arts8 organisation and is one of Australia’s unique circus education and training centres.
