Nexus Live: Eishan Ensemble to play intimate show this July

Eishan-EnsembleNexus Arts will host acclaimed musicians Eishan Ensemble on Saturday 23 July (tonight) as part of Nexus Live: featured in Illuminate Adelaide’s 2022 program.

Led by acclaimed Persian-Australian tar player and composer, Hamed Sadeghi, the ARIA-nominated Eishan Ensemble draws on contemporary and classical music traditions of both East and West.

Eishan’s repertoire consists predominantly of Sadeghi’s original compositions, featuring powerful and diverse improvisatory idioms. Variously described as “Persian chamber jazz” and “Middle-Eastern jazz fusion”, Eishan defies neat labels.

Sadeghi’s psychedelic virtuosity is joined by the individual talents of Michael Avgenicos on saxophone, Adem Yilmaz on percussion, and Maximillian Alduca on double bass, to create the layered and sophisticated soundscapes that are Eishan.

This performance will begin with the premiere of a new collaborative work from Hamed Sadeghi with Adelaide-based artists Maryam Rahmani on santur, Hilary Kleinig on cello, and Dylan Paul on double bass.

Hamed Sadeghi says he is looking forward to bringing this intimate performance to Nexus and collaborating with new local musicians.

“We always love playing to Adelaide audiences and it is exciting to play a venue like Nexus which has such a dedicated following and provides a really beautiful place to play,” said Sadeghi.

“It is also sensational to be playing with some of Adelaide’s very best musicians. Collaborating with new people is always such a gratifying artistic experience and it is something I am really looking forward to.”

Presented by Nexus Arts, as part of Nexus Live, with the support of Illuminate Adelaide, this project has been supported by Arts South Australia and the Australia Council for the Arts.
