NATURISM

Griffin Theatre Company 2025 Season NaturismIn a stellar conclusion to the 2025 season, Griffin Theatre Company bares all with the world premiere of Naturism, the au naturale mainstage debut play of playwright Ang Collins at the Wharf 2 Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company from 25 October to 15 November 2025.

No internet. No intruders. No clothes. Far from the trappings of civilisation, a group of nudist baby boomers have created their very own off-grid bush eco paradise. An unseasonably hot summer approaches, but no worries!

They’ve got enough preserves, pickles and psychedelic rock to get them through it… probably. Enter Evangeline – a chronically online Gen Z eco-warrior. She’s loud. She’s over-sensitive. And she wants to stay.

Directed by Griffin’s Artistic Director Declan Greene and featuring a legendary cast of five including Camila Ponte Alvarez, Nicholas Brown, Glenn Hazeldine, Fraser Morrison and Hannah Waterman, Naturism takes an irreverent and deeply messy look at just how much heat our squishy, naked little bodies can take.

“I know what you’re thinking. Why write a naked climate change comedy? Long story short – the combination of a bushfire evacuation, a love of nude beaches and the desperate creative question: is it possible to write a funny play about an overwhelmingly un-funny global issue? Naturism is my attempt to wrap my head around the state of the environment and my place within it,” said Playwright Ang Collins.

“Directing this play is like nothing myself or the team have ever taken on before… I can’t begin to describe how many things about a rehearsal process are different when the cast are all naked!” said Director Declan Greene.

“But beyond the nudity – this is an impeccably written, incisively funny play by a brilliant new voice, and will leave you with a lot to think about between deep belly laughs.”

Naturism was written by Ang Collins (Meet Me at the Baths, Blueberry Play, Spewy), as part of Create NSW and Griffin Theatre Company’s inaugural $30,000 Incubator Fellowship, a program supporting emerging theatremakers in NSW.

Playful and absurdly funny, Naturism takes audiences on a hilarious journey of hope and delusion in the face of disaster.
