Auditions for the global smash hit Moulin Rouge! The Musical officially kicked off in Sydney this week, with hundreds of performers competing for a coveted place in next year’s highly anticipated production.
With only a limited number of roles available, competition is fierce as performers bring elite technical skill, stamina and star power into the audition room.
“There’s a boldness and fearlessness in Aussie performers. They’re not afraid to take risks, and that willingness to fully commit is exactly what this show demands,” said Associate Director Jacinta John.
“This first round is all about energy, musicality and presence. We’re looking for dancers who don’t just execute the choreography, but bring personality and storytelling into every movement,” added Associate Choreographer Danielle Bilios.
“Australian performers are absolutely on par with international talent – what we’re seeing today here in Sydney is world-class. The standard is incredibly high, which makes these decisions even tougher,” said International Casting Director Lisa Campbell.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is directed by Tony Award® winner Alex Timbers with a book by Tony Award® winner John Logan, choreography by Tony Award® and Emmy Award winner Sonya Tayeh and music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tony Award® winner Justin Levine.
The design team for Moulin Rouge! The Musical includes Tony Award® winner Derek McLane (sets), Tony Award® and Olivier Award winner Catherine Zuber (costumes), Tony Award® winner Justin Townsend (lighting), Tony Award® winner Peter Hylenski (sound), Drama Desk Award winner David Brian Brown (wig and hair design), Sarah Cimino (make-up design) and Tony Award® winner Matt Stine (Music Producer). Australian casting is by Lisa Campbell.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is produced by Carmen Pavlovic and Gerry Ryan OAM for Global Creatures and Bill Damaschke. The Executive Producer of the Australian production is Dawn Martin, Global Creatures.
Following Sydney, auditions will continue in Melbourne as the nationwide search intensifies.
