MICF: You Throw Like A Girl

MICF19 You Throw Like A GirlComedy trio Darcy Dann, Grace Sabbatucci and Jessica Pratt present a sketch comedy show designed to turn the phrase, “You throw like a girl” on its head. In fact, they set out to prove that doing anything “like a girl” should be a matter of pride.

It’s a history lesson like no other, paying tribute to great Australian scientists, athletes, politicians, writers, singers and actors, and all of them are women. Peppered with pop culture and political references to tickle everyone’s funny bone.

The trio take on a range of characters including sports commentators and television home shopping hosts in a scene about “Aussie treasures” which was a highlight of the show. They also came up with some original songs including a Hamilton-inspired rap about Dame Nellie Melba and an advertisement for a new clothes washing liquid called “Do it your blo*dy self.”

Props and sets were well used, particularly the screen at the back of the stage which showed minimalist images of the women in question and helped give the show structure and move it along without being distracting.

As always, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is a great opportunity to see new and emerging artists mastering their craft. You throw like a girl is fun and empowering, everything you could want from a sketch comedy show. You might even learn a few things too!
