Mel & Sam: High Pony

MICF-Samantha-Andrew-and-Mel-O'Brien-High-PonyRight in the middle, in the sweet spot if you will, of the cabaret Venn diagram, between high concept and high art, sits Mel and Sam’s hilariously unhinged High Pony.

After peeling back the curtain on the secrets of primary school and celebrating the Spirit of Tasmania, Mel O’Brien and Samantha Andrew invite the audience into truly the most creative, eye watering, cheeks hurting, snort laughing place imaginable – their own minds.

Opening with one of the most spot on songs about the finer points of Netball, Mel and Sam soon seamlessly transition into song after song and skit after skit of just indescribable comedic gold.

Each seamless transition showcases the undeniable wealth of talent that these two performers poses. The songs are razor smart, the wit is snappy and the crude humour only leaves an audience cheering for more. Add in some powerhouse vocals and unmatched comic timing and it is time to crown Australia’s new Queens of comedy.

Much akin to their faultless tap sequence, the clickity clack of Mel and Sam’s symmetry is second to none. Not only do their talents shine through, but they do truly love what they are doing, generously ensuring that audiences are treated to an absolute top tier show.

High Pony is an obvious must see of this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival but more than that, it is an undeniable Queer celebration just screaming to be heard.
