Owned by ISPT, Karingal Hub is a large sub-regional shopping centre located in Frankston, 50km south of the Melbourne CBD. The centre is currently undergoing a major redevelopment due for completion later this year.

The $160 million redevelopment will transform Karingal Hub into a leading shopping and lifestyle destination at the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula.

Artists are invited to consider creating one major work, or up to three smaller works across the broader site. The Karingal Hub Public Art Commission is open to all Victorian artists via an Expression of Interest.

The selection advisory panel will comprise McClelland Sculpture Park+Gallery Director, Lisa Byrne, Trustee Lisa Roet, Curator Simon Lawrie, and representatives from ISPT.

The successful Expression of Interest artwork will be selected for the further development where aesthetic, feasibility, production, and public art issues are addressed.

The public sculpture work is specifically intended to integrate with the new dining and entertainment precinct known as the Town Square, located at Karingal Hub.

McClelland Curator, Simon Lawrie says the project represents a significant opportunity to create an urban space that has cultural relevance beyond simply being a dining precinct. “Submissions which explore interactivity and public engagement are encouraged,” he said.

“As a public sculpture the commissioned work/s for this location will aspire to respond to its specific environment in both a physical and thematic sense. It is an exciting opportunity for Victorian artists to define this revitalised community space with a major work or series of works,” said Mr Lawrie.

Owned by ISPT, Karingal Hub is a large sub-regional shopping centre located in Frankston, 50km south of the Melbourne CBD. The centre is currently undergoing a major redevelopment due for completion later this year.

ISPT is one of Australia’s largest unlisted property fund managers, with a $19.3 billion property portfolio, investing in and developing commercial, retail, logistics, warehousing and residential property.

Expressions of Interest are now open, and close 30 June 2021. The recipient of the commission will be announced in July 2021 and the work is to be completed by December 2021. For more information, visit: www.mcclellandgallery.com for details.
