One of Australia’s most celebrated solo artists and the lead singer and principal songwriter of Hunters & Collectors, Mark Seymour, will return to the stage this November for Mark Seymour Orchestrated: Hunters And Collectors The Hits & 40 Years of Songs & Stories.
Playing at the Palais Theatre Melbourne for one night only on 26 November 2026, Seymour will perform the iconic songs of Hunters & Collectors, as well as songs from his celebrated solo career, like you’ve never heard them before: accompanied by live orchestra, and illustrated with the stories he’s collected along the way.
Seymour has spent more than four decades creating songs that have become woven into Australia’s cultural identity. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Human Frailty, this new orchestral presented by Classical Music Australia celebrates Seymour’s remarkable body of work, featuring iconic songs like Holy Grail, Still Hangin’ Round, When the River Runs Dry, Do You See What I See? and Throw Your Arms Around Me.
“Melbourne is my home town, and it has been a major source of inspiration for much of my work over the years. It’s a big, dark metropolis full of power, joy and sadness. So to bring my songs to the Melbourne stage accompanied by a live orchestra is going to be a powerful and immersive experience,” said Mark Seymour.
“The songs chosen for this show are a careful balance between the Hunters & Collectors songs that everyone knows and loves, and my solo arrangements that are stylistically most similar. The orchestration places these songs in a much larger, cinematic landscape, which brings enormous power to a catalogue that has spanned some 45 years.”
In collaboration with Classical Music Australia, this is the first time Mark will perform an orchestrated show in Melbourne. “It’s incredibly exciting to see Classical Music Australia bringing together two of my great passions: great Australian music and classical music, in its first year,” said Chris Howlett, Director, Classical Music Australia.
“Mark Seymour’s solo songs and the incredible music of Hunters & Collectors are part of the fabric of Australian music, and hearing them surrounded by that huge orchestral sound is going to be something very special. To bring Mark, these songs and a full orchestra together at the Palais feels like a celebration of Melbourne music at its best.”
Mark Seymour Orchestrated: Hunters And Collectors The Hits & 40 Years of Songs & Stories offers an intimate and entertaining evening with one of Australia’s most respected songwriters and performers.
