German-born stand-up comedian Maren May returns to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with her highly anticipated second solo show, Reads Between No Lines, at Tasma Terrace, from 7 – 20 April 2025.
Following a successful debut at the recent Adelaide Fringe Festival, Maren brings a brand-new hour of observations Australian Stage has described as “wonderfully honest”.
Directed by acclaimed comedian Claire Hooper, Maren May Reads Between No Lines explores the everyday battle of decoding social subtext and those awkward moments where it feels like everyone else got the memo – except you.
Whether it’s navigating cultural misunderstandings, missing subtle cues, or questioning the logic behind everyday interactions, this show finds humour in the challenges of seeing the world differently.
Maren, who is exploring her own diagnosis with autism, offers a deeply relatable perspective for those who identify as autistic or are in the process of seeking a diagnosis.
Maren is an emerging artist and regular in the Australian comedy scene. After performing as part of The Breast of the Fest in 2022 and 2023, she made her solo debut in 2024 with Maren May is German.
Born and raised in Germany, Maren brings a fresh and unique perspective to the comedy world, combining her experiences as an expat with observations about Aussie culture. Known for her fearless honesty and infectious charm, Maren is fast building a loyal following both onstage and online.
A natural storyteller, Maren’s presence extends beyond the stand-up circuit. She is also the creator and host of popular weekly comedy podcast Maren Has A Crush on… recently spotlighted in Apple’s New and Noteworthy section and a regular guest on fan-favourite shows like The Phonehacks with TV’s Mike Goldstein and Who Knew It? with Matt Stewart.
“A crack up… even in her more serious stories, there is a delightful slice of silliness.” – Fringefeed
