Celebrating the life and music of the multi-talented musician, singer and songwriter Marvin Gaye, whose records sold in the millions and who continues to influence a legion of artists the world over, Let’s Get It On – The Life & Music of Marvin Gaye returns to Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre for a limited season from 9 September.
On the morning of 1 April 1984, Marvin Gaye was shot to death in his parents Los Angeles home by his father. Marking the thirtieth anniversary of his tragic death, this two-hour narrative concert explores Marvin’s humble beginnings, his troubled relationship with his father, the women in his life, his search for meaning and the music that defined a generation. His story is fascinating.
I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Sexual Healing, It Takes Two, Let’s Get it On, How Sweet It is and Dancing In The Streets are just a few of Marvin Gaye’s legendary songs, and demonstrating the magnitude of his influence on R&B and Soul music cannot be overstated.
The audiences who have seen the show so far have raved about the stunning performances of Helpmann Award winner Bert LaBonte, new comer Jude Perl, along with the Funk City Band, have brought Marvin Gaye to life on stage receiving a full standing ovation following every performance.
“Bert, Jude and the Funk City Band delivered on the promise of a little Sexual Healing in a climax that had the crowd dancing in the street” – Weekend Notes
