After making her Melbourne International Comedy Festival debut to sold-out crowds in 2021, rising star, Lauren Edwards, has teamed up with Australia’s comedy darling, Claire Hooper, to present Brace Yourself at the Malthouse Theatre from 28 March 2024.
Lauren Edwards dives deep into her personal archives of living with severe scoliosis and her titular back brace, all on the cusp of her 40th birthday.
Directed by Claire Hooper, Brace Yourself hilariously chronicles Lauren’s journey from plucky Brisbane back brace girl to entitled theme park employee to Crazy Candle Lady and all the fleshy bits in between.
From entering her orca era to developing an unhealthy obsession with scented candles, all while navigating the challenges of a tragically aging millennial body, Brace Yourself picks apart a life less lumbar with Edwards’ signature pithy observations, relatable charm and ergonomically-friendly humour. Lauren Edwards is a comedian, actor and singer who will take up any opportunity to wear a cute playsuit and give strangers her opinion! Hailing from the sunny coasts of Queensland, she has performed as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Brisbane Comedy Festival’s Opening Gala. Edwards has also been a guest on the Sunday Roast program.
