La Clique

La Clique David Pereira photo by Craig SugdenWith so many cabaret shows around it is hard to find acts that are new and refreshing. However, La Clique, currently playing at Crown Nightclub Eve, managed to present some exciting and novel performances.

Featuring a cast of eight artists from Australia and around the world, they presented some compelling, wild and outlandish acts. All on a centre stage some 2.5 metres in diameter!

As you enter the venue a bathtub sits centre stage. It is not until the crew handed out plastic wrap, to those sitting in the front row, you realised this was going to be a wild performance.

Aerialist Tuedon Ariri suspended and spun herself about the bath performing drops that left her centimetres from the prop. As she dunked her luscious locks of thick afro hair into the water, screams, groans and gasps were heard through the audience at the realisation we were about to get wet. Ariri managed to bless the entire audience as she frantically spun while ascending above the crowd.

Performer Dale Woodbridge-Brown had the audience in fits of laughter as he sauntered around the stage in a pink cowboy outfit while miming, Save a Horse and Ride a Cowboy. His positioning of roses in various parts of his body while using a stock whip to behead them was a sight to be seen!

While his sword swallowing act managed to repulse the audience as he swallowed not one but several at once, and drink a glass of wine from a tube passed through his nose and out of his mouth!

Juggler Byron Hutton, had a few mishaps while trying to keep several hoops in the air. But in the second act all was forgiven as he performed an arial ballet as clubs took flight. Performed to the track Eleven, while he was surrounded in a  wash of blue light, the performance was mesmerising and hypnotic.

Cabaret artist Tara Boom, was the favourite of the night as she shone during her performances. Boom’s Popcorn Lady was hilarious as she strapped a popcorn maker to her head, plugged it in and made popcorn while spinning  Hulu hoops and covering her body in butter and salt.

Silks performer David Pereira’s performance was dynamic and powerful. You could feel the operatic piece, ‘E lucevan le Stelle from Tosca, exude from his being as every muscle was shrouded in the giant red silk. His male striptease with shaving cream was hilariously confronting and elicited screams of delight from the audience.

Other creative acts included fire breather Clara Fable and a tension strap flight by LJ Marles. The Olivier Award winning, La Clique manages to deliver some original, imaginative, hilarious and amazing acts. Grab your tickets now and see what all the fuss is about!
