Following rave reviews during its premiere season at Sydney Fringe 2023, the world’s first live-action video game comedy Karate Man will make its Adelaide Fringe debut from 11 – 17 March 2024.
This interactive sketch show simulates a video game on stage, with the audience taking command of Karate Man through use of a Bluetooth video game controller.
Sharing the controller with fellow attendees, the audience can PUNCH, JUMP and even SPECIAL through a quest to defeat evil nemesis Ross Roundkick and restore peace to Karatetown.
This live-action video game features a cast of Sydney’s top alternative comedians, led by absurdist sketch superstars Bruno Dubosarsky and Daniel Scarratt of BEAK. Additional characters are brought to life by a team of talented alternative comedians and improvisers including Steph Ryan, Tim Dunk and Maddie Atkins.
Co-Creator Bruno Dubosarsky says audiences will enjoy the choose-your-own-adventure narrative of the show. “Karate Man offers a unique fusion of comedy and interactive theatre that invites audiences to literally take control of the narrative.” says Dubosarsky “It’s not just a show; it’s an epic communal adventure.”
During its debut season in Sydney, Karate Man was a finalist for Best in Comedy and received a 5-star review from Sydney Theatre Reviews. Critics have labelled this show “a work of genius” that “never wanes in its ability to surprise and delight”.
