One of Canada’s premier stand-up comedians, Julie Kim is bringing the hilarity of her show No One Special, to audiences at the renowned Melbourne International Comedy Festival this April!
The comic and TV writer has earned herself a reputation for being one of the funniest and sharpest names out of The Great White North, having performed consistently throughout the North American and Canadian markets for over a decade.
In 2022, Kim toured North America and Canada with Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, Crazy Rich Asians), taking in a whopping 40 theatre shows as part of his Hope You Get Rich Tour.
Her set at the 2022 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal was recently screened for Australian audiences on Channel 10, in an episode that also featured appearances by the likes of Jay Pharaoh, Nish Kumar and Nimesh Patel.
With No One Special, Kim unleashes a new hour of (slightly exaggerated) biographical stand-up, taking in stories surrounding her interracial marriage and her bi-racial baby, pregnancy, parenting and her own childhood.
Witty, relentlessly paced and highly energetic, No One Special is making its Australian debut at the MICF – a proper introduction of Julie Kim to a new wave of fans and those who have been following her for years, but haven’t yet had the pleasure of seeing her show live.
“This is my first time ever in Australia and I’m so excited!” says Julie. “This festival is like our first date, and I hope we can be friends with benefits for a long time.”
Kim’s anecdotes, laced with the perfect balance of purity and fierce wit, have earned her industry acclaim, most recently landing on VIBE’s list of the POWER 60: Inspiring Asian-Canadians of Influence, alongside the likes of Lilly Singh, Simu Liu and Russell Peters.
“Julie is a truly exceptional performer who has established herself as a headlining comedian in Canada and has started to gain a fanbase in the United States and beyond. Julie’s comedy is intelligent, thoughtful, and irreverent.” – Ronny Chieng
