Joshua Hauville: Joshy in Paris

Joshua Hauville stars in Joshy in ParisJoshy In Paris is an absolute knockout – an unfiltered, high-octane explosion of camp, charisma, and comic precision that cements Joshua Hauville as one of the most exciting voices in this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

From the moment he hits the stage, Hauville radiates a kind of chaotic confidence that’s impossible to resist; you’re not just watching a show, you’re being swept up in a full-bodied, gloriously unhinged experience.

Hauville takes us from the world of corporate law to the wildly unpredictable, occasionally piss-soaked streets of Paris, where he throws everything on the line to chase a creative dream.

The material is topically-sharp. Culture clashes, heartbreak, and the absurdities of expat life are mined for maximum comedic payoff, with standout moments ranging from savage takedowns of Grindr hook-ups to hilariously specific tales of existential crises mid-Pilates.

Hauville’s delivery is exceptional – tight, controlled, and seemingly on the verge of organised chaos. His physical comedy is particularly impressive, transforming simple anecdotes into kinetic set pieces that keep the energy sky-high throughout.

Audience participation is used sparingly, which only adds to the unexpected madness. The “Virgin Stick” (yes, really) makes the show delightfully unpredictable, giving select audience members the power to interrupt and trigger a spontaneous Like a Virgin dance. It’s outrageous and joyful, and Hauville’s full-throttle commitment to the chaos only heightens the fun – a willingness to surrender control and embrace the absurd.

But beneath the glitter, sweat, and outrageousness lies a surprisingly heartfelt message. As Hauville barrels through his misadventures in pursuit of Parisian stardom, the show gently reveals its emotional core: that the real triumph isn’t fame or success, but the person you become in chasing it.

By the time Hauville invites the audience to join him in a free dance to the Village People’s YMCA, the line between performer and crowd dissolves into a celebration of reinvention meets sheer camp abandon.
