In Flagrante: Neo Burlesque

TBC In Flagrante Neo BurlesqueAn audacious fusion of elegant fetish, out there sexual slapstick and gender politics, In Flagrante returns to Melbourne with Neo Burlesque at The Butterfly Club for a limited season from 21 May 2018.

In Flagrante takes burlesque in a unique new direction of its very own, fusing super slick contemporary dance influenced choreography with hyper sexualised deeply funny vignettes that mock patriarchy in fiendish and extremely original ways. The show is the creation of Auckland based contemporary dance choreographer, Mary-Jane O’Reilly, who takes the burlesque genre in hugely original and slickly provocative directions.

Featuring a series of sharply rendered pop vignettes from lonely North Korean traffic girls, steam punk super heroines, bridled equestrians and supplicant nurses seeking redemption, In Flagrante’s heady score draws from Klaus Waldeck’s smoky trip-hop classic Ballroom Stories album to David Lynch’s otherworldly Snake Eyes and Nick Cave’s beautifully brooding Water’s Edge.

Like all illicit substances In Flagrante is best shared with friends who’re looking for a perfect onramp for a great night out, that’s funny, provocative and damn right sexy.

“In Flagrante is a sexy, thought-provoking, sensual experience and I can’t wait to see where they go from here.” – Broadway Baby (UK)
