Gravity & Other Myths: Backbone

GOM Backbone - photo by Darcy GrantIt is circus as you’ve never seen before, as Gravity & Other Myths in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse presents Backbone as part of the Australian Performing Arts Market for three performances only from 16 February.

In less than a decade, Adelaide’s acrobatic sensations Gravity & Other Myths (GOM) have rocketed to stellar acclaim with a series of disarmingly accomplished ensemble work, and now it’s time for Brisbane audiences to discover why! Staged with a deceptively DIY aesthetic and dispensing with trickery and distraction, this is circus that goes straight for the jugular.

Backbone is the culmination of all that’s gone before. A celebration of human connectedness and the meaning of strength, its athletic appeal is combined with a conceptual brilliance that elevates it to a new level. Sexy but sincere, raw yet utterly disciplined, Backbone is proof you can’t do the impossible without a little sweat.

Formed in 2009 in Adelaide, the ensemble creates and directs their own work with emphasis on an honest approach to performance, moving away from traditional circus and theatre models, towards a fusion of acrobatic physical theatre. The Company continues to grow and evolve, pushing their physical and creative boundaries and striving for unique performance opportunities and meaningful community engagement.

“A glorious flow of action and reaction … The acrobatics are eloquent and sensational, full of original twists that spell out a new language.” –  The Advertiser
