As part of their historic farewell tour, the Goldner String Quartet will perform their final Canberra concert at Snow Concert Hall on Saturday 28 September 2024.
This concert marks a poignant milestone in Australian chamber music as the quartet concludes an extraordinary 30-year journey in an exquisite and bittersweet performance for their devoted followers and music lovers.
Recognised as Australia’s most celebrated string quartet, the Goldner String Quartet (affectionately known as ‘The Goldners’) has earned an international reputation for their impeccable artistry, seamless chemistry, and lasting contributions to the world of music.
The Goldners have performed across Australia, Europe, the United States, and the Asia Pacific, leaving audiences spellbound by their dynamic and intimate performances. The Snow Concert Hall performance will feature a selection of works that have defined the Quartet’s illustrious career, providing a rare and moving opportunity for audiences to witness their artistry one final time.
Over the years, the Goldners have premiered more than 30 world premieres from renowned works by Australian composers such as Schubert’s Death and the Maiden – possibly the most famous quartet ever written, Schumann’s genius and very last string quartet (String Quartet in A major, Op.41 No.3), and in celebration of Australia’s preeminent composer Carl Vine’s 70 birthday, his exciting fire-work, String Quartet No.3.
Since their debut in 1995, the Goldner String Quartet has become a cornerstone of the Australian and international chamber music scene. The quartet comprises Dene Olding (violin), Dimity Hall (violin), Irina Morozova (viola), and Julian Smiles (cello).
The Goldner String Quartet has released 19 studio albums and collaborated with major labels such as ABC Classic, Hyperion, and Naxos. Together, they have performed over 30 world premieres and made invaluable contributions to the global chamber music repertoire.
