The debut production from emerging Australian theatre makers Bask Theatre, Glory Down The Line will make its highly anticipated Melbourne premiere at The Butterfly Club from 13 January 2025.
This gripping, original, homegrown play takes audiences on an unfamiliar yet relatable journey deep into the great Australian middle of nowhere, where two strangers must confront their pasts, the haunting unknown, and the choices that will determine their futures.
Bask Theatre is led by West Australian artists and co-founders Tully Jones and Ella Waterman. The two are thrilled to be joining the Melbourne indie theatre stage with Glory Down The Line – a work that delves into themes of isolation, emotional healing, and the complexities of human connection.
“Our goal with Glory Down The Line is to explore the parts of ourselves that we often hide away – grief, longing, and the desire to connect,” explains Artistic Director (Bask Theatre) Ella Waterman.
Set in a desolate country town in Victoria, the story follows Simone and Brayden – two strangers whose lives have been shaped by tragedy.
Stranded in a place where the roads lead nowhere and a mysterious payphone offers access to ‘the other side,’ the pair must unravel the hidden history of the town and the unspoken truths between them.
“With no bus in sight and strange lights flickering on the horizon, Simone and Brayden must decide whether to stay trapped in this surreal limbo or take a leap into the unknown,” says writer-director Tully Jones.
Starring Julia Gasparini (Simone) and Henry Stephensen (Brayden) this emotionally charged production showcases the raw intensity and vulnerability of its central characters.
Together, these dedicated and skilled emerging actors create an utterly electrifying dynamic on stage, drawing the audience into a world of tension, mystery, and emotional truth.
Featuring an entirely original musical score, along with the subtleties of natures’ soundscape, the atmospheric energy of this production is real, raw and unrelenting.
It has been composed, performed and recorded by West Australian musician Curtis Waterman, whose compositions are “a blend of folk-rock with ethereal and country influences, inspired by a passion for the glory of the Australian landscape,” he says.
With its rich blend of folklore, suspense, and raw emotion, Glory Down The Line invites audiences to reflect on the complexities of human experience, the power of choice, and the mysteries of life. This thrilling new work will entertain, surprise, shock and impress, but also make you contemplate what it means to truly heal.
