The five-time Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home will be presented in a much-anticipated Brisbane season at Pip Theatre from 29 August 2024.

With Music by Jeanine Terori, Book and Lyrics by Lisa Kron, and adapted from Alison Bechdel’s ground-breaking best-selling graphic novel, Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life.

Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires.

Directed by Sherryl-Lee Secomb and Musical Direction by Benjamin Richards, Fun Home features a stellar cast including Jaden Armitage, Adam Bartlett, Micheal Enright, Emma Erdis, Fraser Goodreid, Deidre Grace, Theo Hunt, Daniel Kirkby and Aurelie Roque as Alison Bechdel.

Alison Bechdel is an American cartoonist and MacArthur Fellow. Best known for her award-winning autobiographical novel Fun Home, she is the author of the critically acclaimed graphic memoirs, Are You My Mother? and The Secret to Superhuman Strength.

Bechdel also wrote Dykes to Watch Out For for 25 years (1983 to 2008) – a slice of life comic strip that offered humourous and biting insight into lesbian culture and inspired the ubiquitous ‘Bechdel Test’ – which is still used to draw attention to gender representation and sexism in film.
