For over two centuries Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein has captivated audiences with her timeless literary classic.
Combining cutting-edge production with the power of brilliant storytelling, Brisbane-based Shake and Stir Theatre Co have breathed new life into Shelley’s classic tale with an electrifying performance that is both haunting and exhilarating.
From the moment the lights dim, the atmosphere is charged with anticipation. Director Nick Skubij and adaptor Nelle Lee have delivered a production that is faithful to the source material, while being innovatively fresh.
Josh McIntosh’s set design combines gothic elements with modern flair. The use of large LED screens (video design by Craig Wilkinson) creates a world where the eerie and the beautiful coexist. Trent Suidgeest’s lighting and Guy Webster’s sound design further enhances the immersive experience, skilfully weaving tension and emotion throughout the show.
Darcy Brown embodies Victor Frankenstein with a profound depth, capturing the internal conflict and madness with chilling precision. Jeremiah Wray’s Creature is equally compelling, offering a heart-wrenching mix of vulnerability and menace. Brown and Wray are ably supported by a stellar cast including Tony Cogin, Nick James, Anna Lise Phillips and Chloé Zuel.
Whether you’re a long-time fan of Shelley’s work or new to the story, this production promises an experience that is both stimulating and viscerally thrilling. This five star production is must see theatre!
