Flaunt

MA Flaunt photo by Mark GreenmantleAfter a sell-out season in 2014, Claire Marshall brings sexy back to the stage with the return season of her hit new work Flaunt at Metro Arts from 13 April 2016.

Flaunt is a unique examination of women’s gender, sexuality and power. Director and choreographer Claire Marshall’s work as a contemporary choreographer for the stage and screen comes to the fore in this new collaboration which takes the smoke, mirrors and glamour of night clubs and embeds it with a clever and insightful look at female sexuality and empowerment.

Flaunt is about the representation of the human body in popular culture,” said Marshall. “Specifically, it’s about how young women project themselves in social media, and the sexualised representation of the female form.”

Marshall has been making a big splash in the local dance industry for years. In 2015 she won the prestigious Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance on Film for her bold and engaging film, Ward of State – which is currently being shown in selected release nationally and internationally.

Marshall has worked with some of the music industry’s finest including Darren Hayes, Kate Miller-Heidke, Megan Washington, Little Birdie, The Sleepy Jackson, John Butler Trio, Powderfinger and Tycho Brahe, and she now takes over the Sue Benner Theatre for four days of dynamic performance not to be missed!

“In re-creating the atmosphere, aesthetics, and feeling of a club, Marshall has been hugely successful; her talent for the theatrical is undeniable. Likewise in creating a piece of dance-based immersive performance art that manages to break down the usual barriers in participatory art, Marshall has succeeded” – Time Off
