Flame Trees

Wayne Tunks Flame Trees The Depot TheatreFollowing its critically-acclaimed premiere in Melbourne in 2013, award winning playwright Wayne Tunks presents the Sydney premiere season of his gritty Australian drama, Flame Trees at The Depot Theatre from 15 June 2016.

Featuring some of Sydney’s finest independent theatre actors, Flame Trees tells the story of Tess, who left her small country town years ago in the back of a police wagon after confessing to lighting the fire that devastated the town and killed her best friend.

Now she’s back and most of the townsfolk aren’t exactly happy to see her – least of all her Aunty, her ex-boyfriend and his new fiancé. Flame Trees is all about fire and the fear it brings, and the story of one woman’s fight for redemption.

Wayne Tunks has been writing and producing independent theatre since 2000, having his work performed all over Australia. His most successful shows include, The Subtle Art of Flirting (5 sell-out seasons), We’ll Always Have Wagga, The Bridesmaid Must Die!, Silvertop Ash, and his hit play, 37 Ways To Say I’m Gay – which will play again this year on the Gold Coast and Canberra.

Earlier this year, The Girlie Show opened to commercial and critical acclaim in both Sydney and Melbourne. Wayne has also been a storyliner on Australia’s longest running drama series, Neighbours.
