Fake it ‘til you Make it

Fake It National MRTheatre Works presents a new theatrical collaboration from Bryony Kimmings and her partner Tim Grayburn about clinical depression, love and ‘being a man’ for a limited season from 18 March as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Bryony is an outrageous, hilarious and fearless performance artist from London. Tim is an outrageous, hilarious and fearless account manager from a top advertising agency. Bryony and Tim are a couple. Bryony spends most of her life on tour, trying her best to change the world. Tim spends most of his life at a desk trying his best to sell the world.

Six months into their relationship, Bryony found out that Tim suffers from severe clinical depression. He had kept it a secret for a very long time. Expect homemade music, stupid dancing, onstage arguments, real-life stories, tears and truths.

Fake it ‘til you Make it is a wickedly warming, brutally honest and funny work about the wonders and pitfalls of the human brain, being in love and what it takes to be a ‘real man’ in a society in which 1 in 8 men will have depression and 1 in 5 men will experience anxiety at some stage of their lives.

Bryony Kimmings creates theatre shows, cabaret works, homemade music, sound installations and documentary films. Her work is larger than life, outrageous, visually loud, often dangerous, somewhat unpredictable, feminist but above all fun.

Her work follows real life social experiments that she embarks on with genuine genius intrigue and wholehearted, fearless gusto. Bryony’s recent work Credible Likeable Superstar Role Model won an Edinburgh Fringe First in 2013 and had its Australian premiere in Melbourne at the 2014 Festival of Live Art.

Tim Grayburn is an account manager at a top advertising agency. This is Tim’s first ever foray into art.

Fake it ‘til you Make it is produced for Theatre Works by Daniel Clarke; Commissioned by Southbank Centre London and Theatre Works; Supported by dancexchange; Funded by Peggy Ramsey Foundation and Arts Council England.
