DreamSong

AAR EBBFlow Theatre DreamSongGuaranteeing all who come to the Church of DreamSong will be touched! EbbFlow Theatre Co presents Hugo Chiarella and Robert Tripolino’s DreamSong – an Australian musical satire at the Alex Theatre, St Kilda this November.

DreamSong tells the story of Pastor Richard Sunday, who runs the Mega-Church of DreamSong, along with his wife, Australia’s leading Christian Pop Artist Whitney Sunday. The Australian Prime Minister, Darren Cunningham, has lost favour with the Aussie public, so Pastor Sunday concocts a plan to bring his church back into the spotlight, and win the election for Cunningham! But will Jesus see their actions as Holy?

With Books and Lyrics by Hugo Chiarella and Music by Robert Tripolino, DreamSong will be Directed by Lauren McKenna (Puffs) with Musical Direction by Maverick Newman (Tis The Season… – 2019 Green Room Award) and Choreography by Madison Lee (Jekyll and Hyde, Falsettos).

Dreamsong features a stellar cast including: Annie Aitken (Jekyll and Hyde, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Nelson Gardner (Ned, Jesus Christ Superstar, Merrily We Roll Along), Nicola Bowman (Blackrock), Olivia Charalambous (Puffs), Jarrod Griffiths (, Gareth Isaac (Puffs), Luisa Scrofani (My Brilliant Career, Violet, In The Heights) and Maxwell Simon (). Rounding out the cast is Bailey Dunnage, Tayla Muir, Kate Schmidli and Samuel Skuthorp.

“I could not be more pleased with the cast that Lauren McKenna and EbbFlow theatre have assembled,” says Writer Hugo Chiarella. “It is particularly exciting to see Nelson Gardner returning to the role of Pastor Richard.”

“Nelson played the role in the very first workshops and presentations of the show when were students at VCA. Large parts of the role were written around his rhythms and sense of humour. There is nobody who understands the DNA of this character in quite the way Nelson does,” added Chiarella.

DreamSong was originally developed through the Victorian College of Arts (2011) and Music Bachelor of Music Theatre, and later, Arts Centre Melbourne’s Carnegie 18 New Music Theatre Program (2012), both with dramaturgy and direction by the late Michael Gurr. Dreamsong was subsequently presented at Theatre Works in 2014 with direction by Dean Bryant.
