A poignant, heartwarming story of idealism, unexpected love, and the endearing naivety of early adulthood set against the dramatic background of the Vietnam War, Doorstep Arts presents the Victorian premiere of Dogfight at Chapel Off Chapel for a limited season from 6 May 2016.
It’s November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia, three young marines set out for one boy’s final night of debauchery, partying, and maybe a little trouble. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose Fenny, an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion.
With a Book by Peter Duchan, Music and Lyrics by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, and based on the 1991 cult movie of the same name starring River Phoenix, Dogfight premiered on the stage of New York’s Off-Broadway theatre in 2012 where it won the Lucille Lortel Outstanding Musical Award and was nominated for numerous Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards.
