Decor + Design returns to Melbourne this July

Visitors at Decor + DesignAustralia’s premier interior design trade event, Decor + Design, celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2024 with the theme of Evolution and the launch of an important new Green Design Show, in partnership with the Green Building Council of Australia and Circular Design Thinking.

With 9,000+ design visitors expected over 3 days from Wednesday 17 – Friday 19 July, Australia’s premier interior design trade event will feature 200+ exhibitors across indoor and outdoor furniture, soft furnishings, lighting, textiles and art.

VIVID Emerging Designer Awards will continue to shape the future of the industry, while star designers will speak, including Abigail Ahern, David Hicks, Greg Natale and Brahman Perera.

New 3 Day Format
“The new Wednesday – Friday format reflects feedback from the design industry,” says Exhibition Director Chris May. “Decor + Design 2024 will be celebrating two decades of design excellence and promises to be a landmark event where heritage brands, new design inspiration, innovation and sustainability converge with the theme Evolution.”

“The theme sets the stage for exploring how the event has grown, particularly in response to the increasing importance of sustainable design practices.”

“Decor + Design is not just a gathering of design professionals, but a reflection of the industry’s evolution towards sustainability, encapsulated by the launch of the Green Design Show and our partnerships with key organisations driving change,” says May.

See Superstar Designers at the International Seminar Series
The International Seminar Series at Decor + Design is one of Australia’s most prestigious line-ups of design speakers.

Supported in 2024 by The Design Files and Cosentino, the 2024 program is one of the strongest line-ups yet, with headliners including British design superstar Abigail Ahern and sought-after Trends Futurist Victoria Redshaw from Scarlet Opus.

Australian design heroes include David Hicks, Brahman Perera, Amelda Wilde, Greg Natale, Kate Nixon, Natalie Walton, James Treble, Sonia Simpfendorfer and Sally Evan (Nexus Designs).

There will also be a new Green Design stream of talks featuring inspirational speakers in the space, supported by Green magazine. Confirmed speakers on the formal Green Design program include Sasha Titchkovsky (Koskela), Taryn Cornell (Green Building Council of Australia), Matt Woods (Killing Matt Woods), Libby Staggs (Sustainable Business Matters) and Anne-Maree Sargeant (Authentic Design Alliance).

Helping to Shift the Design Paradigm
The new Green Design Show will be co-located with Decor + Design, capturing the established audience but changing the conversation. All exhibitors in this part of the show need to meet a robust set of guidelines curated by Circular Design Thinking (CDT), the Official Sustainability Advisor of the event.

Confirmed exhibitors in the Green Design Show include certified B Corp and sustainable powerhouse Koskela, as well as Cultivated, the product stewardship arm of Cult Design.

The Green Design Hub: Makers Movement will feature live demonstrations from makers including renowned Master Upholster John Halpin, shining a spotlight on the essential role artisans play in the circular economy.

“For the Green Design Show, we’ve worked closely with Karie Soehardi of Circular Design Thinking to ensure that no greenwashing takes place, which is pervasive across industries,” says Skye Rytenskild, Creative Director.

“Our partnerships with industry leaders like the Green Building Council of Australia and inspirational brands like Koskela mean that visitors can be inspired by people at the forefront of change. We’re taking visitors on a circular journey into the future!”

VIVID Emerging Designer Awards: A Platform for Next Gen Designers
Decor + Design & Green Design Show will also host the 21st edition of the VIVID Emerging Designer Awards, the leading awards program for emerging and early career Australian designers. It has advanced the careers of many prolific Australian designers, including Nicole Monks, Edward Linacre, Adam Markowitz, Dale Hardiman, Dean Norton and more.

Encouraging the innovative use of sustainable materials, VIVID is an important platform to nourish talented young designers who will be crucial to the future of the Australian design industry. Be part of one of the most important design waves in Australia!
