Considered to be one of the most exciting new love stories of this generation, Tasmanian Theatre Company presents Nick Payne’s Constellations at the Hobart Brewing Company for a limited season from 5 September 2019.
Marianne is a quantum cosmologist. She mostly inputs data. Roland is a beekeeper. He keeps honey in bin bags. It ends happily ever after. Or ends in disaster. It ends in Switzerland. Or ends in Oxford. Or it never ends. Whatever happens, it begins with one drink.
Constellations reunites the team behind Loud Mouth Theatre Company: Director Maeve Mhairi MacGregor and Actor Katie Robertson, recently of TEN’s critically acclaimed Five Bedrooms and ABC’s Rosehaven.
This production also heralds Katie’s return to the Tasmanian stage after three years since her award winning performance in the Tasmanian Theatre Company production EBABY, this time alongside her fiancé Jesse Dugan (last seen in Loud Mouth Theatre Company’s Jekyll & Hyde).
Constellations is the first time the couple will perform together as they also embark on another first – they are expecting their first child in November this year.
A graduate of the Royal Court Young Writer’s Programme, Nick Payne is a British playwright who studied at the University of York and subsequently at the Central School of Speech and Drama. His plays include: If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet which won the George Devine Award; Wanderlust; The Same Deep Water As Me, Blurred Lines and The Art of Dying.
Constellations opened at London’s Royal Court Theatre in 2012 to rave reviews before moving to the West-End later that year. It won the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play, making Payne the youngest playwright to win the award.
