Christmas Melodies set to ring out from Arts Centre Melbourne this December

Arts-Centre-Melbourne-Christmas-Melodies-David-HobsonArts Centre Melbourne’s Morning Melodies program has continued to delight audiences for more than 35 years and its ever-adored Christmas Melodies will ring in the festive season at Hamer Hall on Monday 13 December with host, David Hobson.

Hobson will celebrate the magic of Christmas in traditional Morning Melodies style with a concert of favourite carols and songs accompanied by Daisy Valerio (2017 Finley Award winner for Music Theatre at WAAPA) and Luke Haberecht (Oklahoma!, West Side Story, The Wedding Singer) plus the Salvation Army Melbourne Staff Band.

“Wow, what a relief! It’s great that we can finally get together and truly celebrate this Christmas,” said Hobson. “And what better way than to perform with the fabulous Salvation Army Melbourne Staff Band who play with big hearts, sound beautiful and can really swing.”

“Also a relief to be back live at the fabulous Hamer Hall. I’ve been performing there since it opened in the early ’80s and, for us Victorians, it’s one of our most iconic meeting places. So come and join me with up and coming talents Daisy Valerio and Luke Haberecht as we sing in this Christmas,” added Hobson.

With two performance times – 11.00am and 1:30pm – Christmas Melodies will be a warm festive welcome back to Hamer Hall after Arts Centre Melbourne’s extended closure. In fact, the only other Morning Melodies show that was able to be staged in 2021 was The Australian Ballet School’s En Pointe back in May.

As part of the Victorian Government’s easing of restrictions, Hamer Hall will be able to welcome back a full house. Community safety measures include QR code check-in and proof of vaccination with mask requirements still currently in place.

The feel-good concert series continues to celebrate Australian performers across a variety of genres and a 2022 program will be announced in the coming months.

Arts Centre Melbourne’s acclaimed Morning Melodies started in 1985 when performer Betty Pounder and producer Sandy Graham decided it was time to make good use of an otherwise empty theatre on a Monday morning.

Morning Melodies has presented more than 450 concerts and welcomed more than half a million audience members, making it a quintessential Melbourne experience.
