Bringing some twisted Christmas cheer to Melbourne and raising much needed funds for Launch Housing and their work to end homelessness, Christ Almighty! plays at Bella Union, Trades Hall for a limited season from 28 November 2015.
A promiscuous archangel, a wise man with multiple personality disorder, a psychotic King, a desperate donkey, a smitten shepherd, one dodgy innkeeper, and some knocked-up virgin and her baffled fella. Put them all together on one bill and you’ve got eight versions of the greatest story ever told, by those who were there, in monologue … up close and personal. This is no silent night – It’s Christ Almighty!
Direct from sell-out seasons in New Zealand, a rotating cast of 24 actors from television, film, cabaret, theatre and comedy give their all over eight outrageous nights. You will have no idea who will be performing which role on any given night, but strap yourself in … it’s going to be a wild ride!
Written by Dan Musgrove and Natalie Medlock (who also directs), Christ Almighty! stars: Anna Achia, Dougie Baldwin, Alan Brough, Byron Coll, Danielle Cormack, Zoe Cramond, Nicole de Silva, Julia Grace, Calen MacKenzie, Robbie Magasiva, Natalie Medlock, Rhys Morgan, Morgana O’Reilly, Geraldine Quinn, Cameron Rhodes, Thomas Sainsbury, Sara Wiseman and more…!
Launch Housing is an independent Melbourne-based community organisation formed from the merger of Home Ground Services and Hanover. “The Nativity story is transformed into a kind of X-rated version of The Life of Brian … the frivolity is peppered with some ironic reflections on religious experience.” – NZ Herald
