Catherine’s appointment to the role sees her head up the new APAM Office in Melbourne and create new opportunities for Australian performing artists and companies, nationally and internationally.
In February, Victoria was selected as the next host of APAM from 2020 to 2024, with a new model that couples the biennial industry event with a year-round schedule of activities to connect Australian artists to international touring and engagement opportunities.
As APAM Director, Catherine will set up the independent APAM office and develop and deliver an offering of events, programs, services and activities that will roll out from 2020 onwards.
Catherine has spent 20 years working in the performing arts in Australia and the UK. Currently General Manager at Melbourne’s Arts House, she has a wealth of experience in the contemporary performing arts sector through roles ranging from executive producer to business manager to publicist.
A Board member of Theatre Network Australia, Catherine’s history has seen her work across theatre, live art, contemporary dance, performance and music through executive positions at Chunky Move, Malthouse Theatre, and Arena Theatre Company.
She has also worked in producing companies and festival contexts, nationally and internationally, including Queensland Theatre Company, Traverse Theatre (UK), Melbourne Festival, Queensland’s youth-focused Out of the Box Festival and the Queensland Biennial Festival of Music.
At Arts House Catherine has been involved in the development and delivery of major partnership projects such as the interdisciplinary project Refuge, Dance Massive and the Festival of Live Art. Between 2014 and 2017 she strengthened her worldwide network of producers, venues and festivals as one of the recipients of the inaugural International Society of Performing Arts – Australia Council Fellowship.
Catherine was selected following a national recruitment process and will commence in the role in August. For more information, visit: www.creative.vic.gov.au for details.
